[Plugin: Post Notification] Cron job for sending notifications?

Is there any way yet to trigger notifications with a cron job, instead of waiting for a user to trigger it?

Mail sending is triggered by the visitors on your website. So if no one visits your site for two hours then the mails will not be sent…. I was already thinking of a way to trigger it with a cron job but most sites have enough traffic, that this is not an issue.

That was two years ago — I have a low traffic site & need to be able to send notifications out immediately. Any progress on this?
