On https://www.gino-leineweber.de I use Polylang to maintain the site in English and in German. German is the default language.

I got following problem with my startpage: The translation of textdomain elements does not work there and I was not able to find a solution for this problem. On all other pages everything’s fine.

  • It seems that you have not set correctly the languages:
For English, the locale is en_US, For German, it is de_DE. If you modify these, language files won’t load correctly. Just edit both languages and it should work correctly.

The issue may have occured if you tested xili-language and did not delete (using the red link) this plugin before installing Polylang.

    Thanks for your reply!

Both in database and in wp-config.php the locale is set to de_DE.

When I leave my backend admin setting to “WordPress default”, I get a German backend – but I get an English admin bar in frontend. When I opt for “German” in this setting, both the backend and the frontend admin elements are in English (while the option “English” leads to the expected result)!

I tested xili-Language, but installed Polylang before – I had it deactivated when I tested xili. Xili is deleted, also the entry in the options table of my database.

Still I encounter my problem. ?? So what can I do?

Where did you look in database?
Polylang does not care of what is in your wp-config.php, otherwise your site could not be multilingual.

I tested xili-Language, but installed Polylang before – I had it deactivated when I tested xili.

I was almost sure of this ??

As mentionned above you have to edit your languages. Go in Settings->Languages. There you see your two languages in the table. You will probably notice that in the locale column, you have English and Deutsch instead of en_US and de_DE. Edit both languages to change this. Don’t forget to clik on save changes.

Oh, now I understood, finally! ??

Indeed, this was the problem – I edited the entries and now it works fine! Thank you very much!
