    Hi,

I’ve set up the polylang plugin for a Danish website that I want to have a Danish and an English version. Everything seems to work, except that the possibility to set default language under the settings tab isn’t there. There just isn’t a module with a dropdown menu for setting the default language as shown in the documentation. How do I set the default language then? I’ve tried setting Danish to ‘0’ and English to ‘2’ in the language sorter to have the Danish version as default, but that doesn’t do the trick.

    Thanks ??

    Hello @chrystl,

I have 2 languages (English and Chinese). I clicked the star to set English as default language. But default page always goes to Chinese. Is the function broken?

Same problem here. I have the languages Dutch and German. Dutch is the default and has the star before it in the Polylang settings. But when I type www.mysite.com in the browser I am redirected to the German page (www.mysite.com/de/).

Same problem for me! My default is french with the star, but I always land to the english version.

Can you tell us why this append ?

    Thanks

Just had this problem. Easy to fix. Delete all languages and make them again, this time be careful where asterix (default) goes. Then at the top click synchronize all to default language. It is all.

    Hi Stagger Lee,

So you go to settings > language and then on the right, on the languages, you go to “delete” ???

When I pass the mouse over it, it said this delete the language and all its data …

This will delete all the pages that uses the language ???

No, my all content is there after deleting. But I cannot say to 100% “do it”.
You delete possible custom translations of WP options, etc, not Pages/Posts/Categories/Tags, etc..

    Hi,

    Try deleting cookies.

Make sure you have “Detect browser language” deactivated under Settings… it may be forwarding you to your system/browser’s default language!

First of all you have to set the default language by asterisk. Second, deactivate the “detect browser language” under settings. Third, delete the cookies (browser’s settings). Then, the url will point to the desired language.

    Hi,

    Stagger Lee solution works.

Deleting languages does not delete pages or articles.

However, the language link between pages will be deleted as well as strings’ translation.

    Hello,

    It’s back again!

Maybe after last update it turns that the English version is displayed by default instead of the French one.

    Any idea of what’s happening?

Cyrille Sanson-Stern is right its simply a cookie issue, or at least in my case it was. Other users or private navigation window will not be redirect, they access the default language.

hope it is the same for you guys

Under the Polylang Setting just Deactivate the “Detect browser language” then it will work.
