• Hi,

Upon upgrading to Podpress 8.8.10.2, the “Downloads Per Media File” option seems to have stopped tracking the latest episodes of my podcast. It seems to be tracking older episodes, but nothing new. I can, however, go to “Downloads Per Post” and find the information I want.

Why is “Downloads Per Media File” not working and how can I resolve this issue?

    Thanks!

It seems to be tracking older episodes, but nothing new.

Several causes are possible. It might have nothing to do with the last upgrade.

Try to find out whether it is only a problem of the display of the numbers or problem of the tracking.

If you are using “Full” or “Full+” then there is a sub page which is called Raw Stats. Open this page and control whether or not downloads of newer episodes are getting listed.

Have you used the stat logging “Full” so far? Or a different setting?

It might also be helpful if I could take a look at your blog. Please post the URL of you blog.

    Regards,

    Hi Tim,

I think the numbers are being tracked, but I don’t think they’re being displayed on the “Downloads Per Media File” screen. At least, my new content isn’t being displayed. But, as I mentioned, it is being tracked, because I can find the information I need from “Downloads Per Post.”

I am currently using the “Full” logging mode. The URL of my blog is https://www.solidverbal.com.

    Thanks again

    Thank you for the link.
I have tried to reproduce this behaviour with one of your episodes. I have add the URL to a post in one of my test blogs and started playing the episode to see whether or not the mechanism counts or not. It worked. I can see one download in my statistic tables – in the one of “Downloads Per Post” and “Downloads Per Media File”.

I have modified the code of the statistic page for version 8.8.10.2. This solved a problem with media files which have white space in their file names. But it should not affect media files with file names which contain basically ASCII characters (and other web-save characters). If this recent modification would be the problem then the rows of your old files in this table would be affected by this too. Or have you changed the naming scheme of your podcast files?

I don’t think they’re being displayed on the “Downloads Per Media File” screen

Do I understand it right that you can not see the file names of the latest episodes in this table?
Or can you see the file names but the download numbers do not change?

Only to be sure: this “Downloads Per Media File” table has max. 25 rows. If you have more episodes with more than zero downloads then the files with the low download numbers are on the next page of this table. You can change the page by clicking on “Next Entries ?” or by choosing the page with the select box which should be also visible in the table footer (if there are more than 25 rows).

I have added the old version of the Downloads per Media File page to the current Development Version. You can use it to compare the results.
But probably more important are the answers to my questions in the post above.

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks for your continued responses.

    To answer your questions:

1 – I have not changed the naming convention for my podcasts. I use underscores instead of spaces.

2 – I did some digging and WAS able to find the latest podcast episodes in the “Downloads Per Media File” area. The problem is merely that they are out of order. I was making an assumption that the most popular would appear at the very top (and judging from your response, they should). In reality, they ARE appearing, but way down on the list, despite the fact that they are some of the most downloaded shows I’ve posted. The download numbers for these look accurate.

Might be more a bug with the way things are ordered on that page? Would be really nice if we could sort by the column.

    Thanks again!

Well, I have modified the part which contains the sorting of the rows of this table. I have made these modification to prevent errors in other cases.
The whole issue seems to be connected to the PHP version on the server of the blog. But it seems that I have not figured it completely out how. So the rows are getting sorted (by the Total – descending) or not. But there will be no cryptic error message.

But you right this is not ideal.

Would be really nice if we could sort by the column.

    … and this is planned.
