[Plugin: Pie Register] Older versions unavailable / Beta release only option

I think it’s a bad idea to host the stable release in /trunk and never create any tags for previous versions. Right now I’d like to use this plugin, but I can’t because the only version I can download is a beta release, which I’m not going to use on a production site.
Even if a stable version was available, it’d still be a good idea to tag older versions in SVN because people will have various reasons for wanting to access them (e.g., they can’t upgrade to WP 3.2, etc).
