I have discovered the plugin is not the guilty! The hosting provider limited php scrips to a certain amount of time. In my case 2 minutes. The plugin reads the file and puts it in a buffer via a php script. It is possible the script will be cut off by the operating system watch dog before it can read all the data in the file. In this case you will go ahead with the transfer, until the buffer is empy and the result is a corruped (broken) file. This is my situation for rather large files es. 650-800 MB or so. No troubles for smaller files. Unfortunately there is not any solution rather then changing host type with a much more expensive one like a dedicated hosting insted shared one.
Hope it will be of some help. I ivestigated a lot of time on this annoying truoble!

Thanks smoothboy. You are completely right.
There is another solution that will work with huge files – X-SendFile. If your server has mod_xsendfile module installed then you can use Paid Downloads Pro. Pro version can handle downloads through this module.

I’ve been trying to send small files, only 26mb, it’s still saying file is corrupt

Try to send really small. Up to 1 Mb.

Problem is, it only does it when someone buys the download and they receive the automatic email. If I send them a new link that i generate, it works fine. Could it be because I send a link that is hyperlinked into “DOWNLOAD”? Because when they get their automatic email, they get a massive long link and sometimes the second half of the url is not hyperlinked, because it’s dropped down on to the next line.

    Make sense?

    Thank you!

Yes. Download link is a long link. E-mail client software breaks long download link. This is bug of e-mail client.

Yes but a broken download link produces an Invalid link response by the browser not a corrupted file download. In my experience I never had troubles with files under say 400 – 500 MB.

Ah, ok thanks for that. Could be something in my file then. I’ll republish and start from the start. It used to work just fine.

Thanks guys, great plugin Ivan, thanks so much!

I try to sell epubs with Paid Download. The download links look fine and the downloaded file has the right size. But ebook programs (nor Calibre nor fbreader or Sigil) can’t read it. When I try to unzip the epub (epubs are zipfiles) I get this answer:

    $ unzip annII.epub
    Archive: annII.epub
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of annII.epub or
annII.epub.zip, and cannot find annII.epub.ZIP, period.
