• I’ve been using Online Backup for WordPress since the end of March to backup the FileSystem and Database to the online vault. I had daily backups selected, and it backed up successfully for the most of part until June 14th, and then it has stopped working. I did a manual backup on the 24th, but nothing I do seems to get in working again.

    Suggestions?

  • Nope.
    I still have the
    “Backups are scheduled
A backup is due to start at any moment…”
message and the last successful backup was a manual one taken in July.
My host have said this though re running cron jobs:-

Cron jobs usually happen every hour. So, yes it may just be a case of allowing it some time to update if you have updated any server settings/scheduled any cron jobs etc.

So perhaps this is interfering with the scheduler? When I schedule a post to be published in the future (for instance at 11.15am) then it doesn’t publish it exactly at that time but when I look back at some point later it will have been published – not sure what the delay is though…

    Hi fibdes,

WordPress doesn’t use the server’s cron system. It requires extra configuration on both WordPress and the server to use the server’s cron system.

What it does is when a user visits the website, it sees if any schedules need starting, and after sending the user the page they wanted, it then makes a request back to itself to run cron stuff. This sometimes doesn’t work if the WordPress can’t connect to itself. This is where ALTERNATE_WP_CRON comes in. Instead of making the request itself, when a user visits it forwards the user with a redirect to the page they actually want, and then performs jobs. So the user initiates the jobs, not WordPress itself.

Does the backup eventually start? As in, if you look in the Activity Log, do you see alot of Time Out (which means it started, but had to wait for another cron to start, and it didn’t happen in a reasonable time so it aborted) or do you just not see ANYTHING since the one in July?

    Jason.
