Notify uses gravatars, like most everything else in WordPress. If you don’t have your gravatar account on gravatar.com setup, then you won’t see the right avatar.

Thank you. It appeared that my emailadress in gravatar.com was associated with somebody else. The problem is solved now.

I use Notifly in a small private blog for communication within the board of a foundation. There are only 5 registered users, all are editors.
Is it possible to use their avatar pictures that are uploaded in the WP-content database? Instead of gravatars, as it seems I’m the only one that has a gravatar picture.

No. WordPress doesn’t actually have any way to upload avatars locally, it uses gravatar too. So if you are uploading local avatars, then you’re using some add-on plugin for that. Notify has no way to know how this other plugin works, so it can’t see the avatars from it.
