[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Strange Text After Uploading Images: "????"

    After uploading any number of images to NextGen Gallery, I am brought to a screen of just utter symbol chaos (screen two in the image below; it looks to be the .jpg file in text format?). The first image I selected to upload is in the gallery, but none of the others are. The first image also does not have a thumbnail, and will not allow me to edit it (“Error updating thumbnail”).

    I have replicated this error with both the latest version of NextGen (1.9.3) as well as 1.9.2

    Does anyone even know where to start on this issue?

  • Something very similar happened to me on a website using qtranslate plugin for multilanguage content and admin panel.

    By chance, I found that if I changed the admin language to english, the images uploaded fine, and the thumbs were created successfully.
    But if the admin language is not set to english (in my case, spanish), when I try to upload images I get the same error symbols, and thumbs are not created.

    I don’t have any further clue as to where the problem is and how to fix it. For the time being, I’m changing the admin panel to english everytime I need to upload images.
