• I see instructions for the slideshow command.

The width and height can be set using the w and h attributes. Example :
    [ slideshow id=x w=width h=height ]
(without the spaces after/before the brakes)

BUT would like to use it with RECENT or RANDOM photos instead of a single gallery is this possible? HOW?

Also is it necessary to spec W & H? What if you want to display full images in original size? Possible?

    Thank you!

  • I can’t provide a reference for that parameter, I imagine if I have it (and I do, lol) that I must have found it through scouring the internet for a solution the same way everyone in this thread likely has been.

What about it isn’t working for you? I have the latest version of the NextGen plugin (1.7.2 at the time of this posting) and it works perfectly for me, I just want it to be “all galleries” instead of just one specific gallery. When I put id=0 it shows [gallery not found] in my posts, but when I put id=1 (or any other working gallery id number) it works beautifully. I even double checked myself just now to be sure that it is actually random, and it is.

To be clear, the only thing you should need to change from:

    [slideshow id=x random]

    is the “x”.

I’d love to help you figure this out if it would fix your problem, but I’m afraid this is all I can offer help with. I’m not sure if I’m using jquery or flash so perhaps that’s the hangup, if you tell me how I can check I’ll be glad to – I set mine up so long ago I forget what I’m using.

ah, i suspect you’re using the Flash slideshow rather than the jquery only option. is ‘Enable flash slideshow’ checked under >gallery >options >slideshow

It’s a random ***jquery*** slideshow for nextgen that would be fantastic to have – given that flash is being frowned upon a bit these days in terms of accessibility.

You are absolutely right, the flash box was checked. I actually appreciate you pointing that out to me as I prefer to stay away from flash for the same reasons you mentioned and I didn’t even realize I had checked this.

Oh well, back to the drawing board for me… In any event, the random does work for people using the flash version of the slideshow… At least we were able to sort that out for anyone reading this thread.

Hoping to get this figured out, perhaps by someone more familiar with the plugin than I am… I have been digging for 2 solid days now and several other days in the past, still with no success. I have stumbled across 2 articles on placing the slideshow sidebar widget in the header:

    https://www.scotproof.com/inserting-a-nextgen-slideshow-in-your-header/

    https://www.mackmangroup.co.uk/adding-a-nextgen-slideshow-to-your-wordpress-template

Neither of those solves my problem, but I thought they might help someone else figure this out. I continue to believe that if the slideshow can display random images from ALL galleries in the sidebar widget then it can do it in a post.

I will add that there is a “hack” way to do this by turning on the sidebar widget, load your site and copy/paste the source code into a post. What you should end up with is something that looks similar to this (depending on your settings):

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]

Obviously yours will look different based on the options you have defined for your slideshow, but I was able to make the changes in the widget and have them appear in my post. The problem I ran into was that when I removed the sidebar slideshow widget (I didn’t want the slideshow in my sidebar) it stopped working in my posts also…

As I said, this is a hack way to do this for sure, but it might work well enough for some people, or even help someone figure out the proper solution. Please keep in mind that this is all flash stuff for people using the flash imagerotator.swf file.

I’m not sure why the code was moderated, it was 3 lines and the rules say use the paste bin for more than 10. Regardless, I think most of you get the idea of what I was saying if you’re reading this.

I’m still digging for answers here, if anyone has anything constructive to add I’m all ears.

    Missing back-ticks, perhaps?

Nah, I put the ticks in, I try to be pretty particular about all that, and I even re-read the post after I made it to be certain.

No worries, it’s back now – now if I can just figure this out, heh… ??
