[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Show description in grid page, but not in pop-up?

  • I’d like to have the image description show up in the main gallery, where you see the grid of all images. But I don’t want the description to show up when you click on an image and get the pop-up with the “Prev Next Full Size” navigation options. I have Paypal buttons in the descriptions, which looks great on the grid page, but it breaks the formatting on the pop-up.

  • Hi,
    first you may try to choose the for the moment only css file for ngg supporting descriptions for thumbnails which could be found under Gallery->Style>select shadow with description orso .css.

    Regarding the spoiled popup, well if it wouldn’t break the formatting it would be no bug but a feature, try other overlay effects gallery->options->effects but you have to install them first separetely as the are not included in ngg. Some will display no description some might not be spoiled by the button.

    Brilliant! You are right that it would be a feature, if it worked right with the formatting. So I tried all the possible effects, and lightbox is the only one that includes the description and leaves enough room for all the text. Looks great! Thanks!

    Works great, but with one big glitch! It seems to not refresh the description as I click on Next or Prev. So the Paypal button stays the same as whichever image was opened first. Obviously, there’s no way for me to know which image someone was looking at when they clicked the button, if the button stays the same. The same thing happens on descriptions that don’t have a button. For instance, if you go to https://www.whoaphotos.com/?page_id=11 and scroll to the very bottom, there is an image with text about no prints available. If you click on one of those, and then click on Previous, the previous images will continue to say “No prints available” in the pop-up, although they don’t say that in the gallery.

    Any thoughts on that?

    Hi,
    i remember this one darkly, some how its not refreshing if there’s empty content in the descriptions of other images, but that’s darkly as said just for giving it a maybe effortless try add something descriptive to every image in the gallery…

    And just as proof of concept (as its costly even a little for noncommercial use – not the linked plug but the js script you have to download) have you tried https://www.puzich.com/wordpress-plugins/lightview
    and what it does to your galleries?

    Aah, makes sense. I will try populating each dsecription. It makes sense that that will fix it.

    I checked out Lightview, which looks lovely, but I think Lightbox will work just fine for free ??
