I have generated 25 galleries and added titles and descriptions. Now they load rather slowly in the carousel. I am working on implementing an AJAX script created by someone on Google Code, but as it is not running well yet so I use other options. So I resized several of these images on my hard disk. Made them smaller – less KB. Can I replace existing ones with with the smaller ones via FTP and regenerate thumbnails AND keep titles and descriptions?

I can overwrite them, import meta data again and regenerate thumbnails. Case closed.

Are you saying… if I want to upgrade an image, I can do it via FTP but not through WordPress? And then how do I import metadata and regenerate thumbs????? Fantastic and thank you… and a few more details would really help this newbie ??

Yes, I’d say so. Overwrite via FTP and then in Gallery Manager scan for new images using the scan for… button.

Through the Gallery Manager. Go to Gallery Manager, select gallery of choice. Then just select the images you want reworked by checking the check boxes in front of them. Then select “Create new thumbnails” or “Import meta data” from dropdown and click apply.

    Hello,
Even if I try to overwrite my exisitng NextGen gallery images with new ones with identical names, via FTP, the old images still show up. Yes, I have restarted the browswer to clear the cache and it is still happening. Somewhere NextGen is storing the old images and still calling them, even with new ones uploaded, which don’t show up at all. Would like to know how to purge those old ones from the database. The only thing that allows me to save my galleries is deleting old images then uploading same images with different names. They have a new ID number, and the old ones are still in there somewhere weighing down my database.
    Any insights?
    Thanks,
    Cari
