[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Rebuild image structure : sooooo slow…

  • I’ve just upgaded to nextgen-gallery 1.7.0 from whatever the previous latest version was, and for the last 4 hours it has been “Creating unique slug”.

    Now it’s up to 1700 / 9864 images.

    it’s advancing by 50 images or so every 20 minutes. It was quick at the beginning, but appears to be slowing down.

    Anyone else having trouble with this part of the upgrade process?

    It tells me not to reload the page, but i’ll have to leave my laptop on for another few days at this rate.

    30 minutes later, and it’s now up to 1750 / 9864 images… ??

    Obviously I cannot leave my laptop on for the next 3 days to allow this to complete, so if there’s no way of speeding it up, is there a way I can start it where it left (to do a little bit each evening over the next month) off or run the queries manually?

    Also, i’m concerned that if I stop this, if my internet link dies, or if my ISP’s mysql server is restarted it’ll stop working, and how will I be able to run every part of the upgrade procedure that hasn’t run yet??

    I’m in a bit of an indeterminate state now… ??

    It appears to have now stalled and isn’t progressing any further. It got as far as 1925 / 9864 ??

    I’ve been watching the database and it appeared to be populating the “image_slug” field. However, it hasn’t advanced past 1925 for the past 30 minutes. I therefore suspect it has stopped.

    How can I run the rest of the upgrade procedure??

    It has basically got as far as the first half of “Rebuild image structure”.

    my upgrade to 1.7.0 is only partially done. the upgrade got half way through “Rebuild image structure” and didn’t do anything else.

    How can I complete the remainder of the upgrade?

    You can restart later the rebuild via the option page

    ah, ok… so given how far through my upgrade got, is the *only* thing I need to do as follows:

    Click the “Proceed now” button next to “Create new URL friendly image slugs” on the Options page?

    Is there anything else I need to do to complete the upgrade to 1.7.0?

    also, alex… i’ve just done as above (clicked “Proceed now”) and it is starting to do the same thing as it did before… the first few hundred are very fast, but it rapidly slows down and get slower, and slower, and slower…

    it appears that this feature may be broken for more than 300 images or so… at least for me.

    No prob for the moment, as written the feature is currently not in use. I will look into it…
