[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] [Plugin: NextGen gallery] Thickbox CSS doesn’t pass CSS validation

    I couldn’t find any post related to this in the WP forums, so my apologies if this was discussed elsewhere.

    This isn’t a problem with NextGen at all (which is one of my favorite WP plugins), but with Thickbox really: thickbox.css doesn’t pass W3C’s CSS validation (and, yeah, that’s kind of important to me… not necessarily a deal breaker for me personally, but if I build a site for someone else, I like it to be as squeaky clean as possible code-wise). From what I could glean at the Thickbox forum, fixing that is left to the user since it is not a priority for the developers.

    Would it be hard for me to tweak NextGen to use instead, say, Smootbox (a Thickbox clone)? I’m not really interested in generating a jQuery vs. mootools discussion. I’d rather use the latter since Smoothbox does pass CSS validation out of the box.

  • No, this is no problem. NextGEN has am open effect interface, so you can use any other effect you like…

    Thanks for the reply. That is good to know. ?? I’ll start experimenting with this today then.

    I’m normally reluctant to do these sort of tweaks since I’m afraid of forgetting I made changes (as I often do) and then overwrite them while upgrading the plugin or something… or if I make a site for someone else and I never touch it again (and the new owner makes x or y auto update and overwrites what I did). I’ll try to be extra careful ??

    No need for tweaks, look at gallery options and setup the effect to “others”. Now you can add the other script and enter the class/rel name in the effect interface. It will be saved and not overwritten by any update…

    I’m confused about this advice.I looked at Effects in Gallery options but I don’t see the option of “Others” in the list. Is it “Custom” ?
    And if I were to do the same thing as cobaltwolf and install smoothbox
    Is this how to get it to work?
    class=”smoothbox” rel=”%GALLERY_NAME%”

    Also in order to use smoothbox do I upload it the plugin folder?

    I’d like to do this as well.

    It hasn’t been explained well though for me however. Do I need to install Smoothbox as a plugin in the plugins folder?
