I installed NextGen optimizer to try to speed up my NextGen Galleries. When installed with WordPress 3.3.1 and NextGen 1.9.3, the optimizer breaks your gallery layouts. No matter what I did, the galleries displayed in a single column (previously, I had images displaying 4 across each row). Uninstalling the optimizer plugin fixed the problem immediately.

Hi jmek, thanks for trying out NextGEN Gallery Optimizer!

Did you remember to select your stylesheet on the settings page, at all? By design the plugin strips NextGEN’s sitewide scripts and styles and lets you insert your own where appropriate…currently a stylesheet (makes thumbs display in a line) and also the Fancybox lightbox effect.

Apologies if this was unclear, I’ll make sure to set a default stylesheet in the next version and perhaps an admin message to that effect too.

Also, the plugin only supports the [nggallery id=x] shortcode presently, which came from code I developed for a client who had that specific requirement. However, I’ve been working on an update that adds support for ALL of NextGEN’s shortcodes, which will be available as a donation-based upgrade through the next version’s settings page for anyone who wants the extra features. I’m aiming to release it on Monday (19/03/2012)…so do keep an eye out.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Mark.

Hi Mark, I am having a similar problem with this plugin. I have the latest version of wordpress operating nextgen gallery and using the optimiser. It works great on all my pages, except the home page! The home page puts all the thumbnails into a single column, where as all other pages keep the grid layout. Is this a known bug?

Also I tried referncing my own theme and that did not help either

    Hi jodithornton,

Thanks for using NextGEN Gallery Optimizer!

Would you be able to provide a link to your homepage at all? (you can email me if you prefer it remain private).

The plugin is specifically written to detect shortcodes on multi-post pages such as the homepage, as well as single posts/pages…so it should be working.

However, it is not currently possible in WordPress to detect galleries inserted via widgets or do_shortcode calls in your theme at the time the head section is processed (where we need to load the scripts and styles), so these are unsupported I’m afraid.

If you require widget or do_shortcode support on your homepage, I can write you a custom conditional statement to get the necessary scripts loading, but I would need to see your actual setup first.

    Cheers,
    Mark.

Hi Mark yes I would like that do_shortcode support as well, I see it’s not in the latest release of your plugin?

    Hi bvillebud,

No worries. If you send me an email detailing which version of Optimizer you’re using, along with which pages you’d like the scripts to load on, I’ll make you up a custom conditional statement for your do_shortcode calls.

    Cheers,
    Mark.
