[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] moving various sites with existing galleries into and out of multisite

I have set up a wordpress multisite and I want to add various existing sites to this multisite. All sites already have many nextgen galleries, with captions, titles, etc.
After importing the sites into multisite (through xml export-import) and copying the gallery files in the proper directories, no galleries appear. No database tables were added.
I could add the database tables manually, but how do I do this with various subsites, who all have their own galleries and albums?
Another thing is, that I will keep the opportunity to move the sites out of the multisite, in the future.
