[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Gallery thumbnails displayed with odd breaks in arrangement

    I just updated a few moments ago and am struck with the odd problem that my once orderly thumbnail displays in my galleries are now somewhat chaotic. Normally every space is filled however now there are odd breaks which force the next thumbnail over, no longer filling in the grid.

    And example can be seen here, although it happens on most of the larger galleries on my site that I’ve looked at so far.

    If I set a specific number of columns like suggested here

    then the spacing issues go away.

    However because my site uses a variable width depending on the browser size, and I don’t want to force only 4 columns for all sizes, I cannot use anything other than 0. On all previous versions of NextGEN gallery that I’ve used, this was never an issue. Galleries displayed fine and as you widened or shrank the browser window the number of columns changed as needed.

    It seems that the problem stemmed from the “Set fix dimension” option in the thumbnail settings that was supposed to be checked but after the update was cleared. I’m still not sure why it caused this problem, but regardless it seems to be working now.

    I’m currently starting with WP and while using the NextGen Gallery, I stumbled over the same problem. Thought it would be fixed with 1.4.0 but nada, still the same problem.

    So, setting a number of specific columns brought me to the idea that this maybe could be done per page with custom fields. Although it is not mentioned, I just tried ngg_gal_Columns for a specific page, and it worked. At least for me (and for the moment) this is a solution I can live with ??

    Thought this might be helpful for others.

    hi tcbp the problem in nextgen was solved with your solution “Set fix dimension” but this solution is not the finally, but is fine for momment, thanx for your help.

    I’ve asked about cropping thumbnails already, but nobody replied.
    I’d like to crop thumbs 198×100 px (without deforming), but seems NGGallery doesn’t support this feature, or I can’t find how to realize it.
    Temporarily I did it with TimThumb, but that’s not actually what I was looking for. I want static thumbs to be generated.
