[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Flash player error, then gallery won't load

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions. Things are moving in the right direction but here are my present glitches:

1 You and Dave Potter give conflicting instructions about where to put imagerotator.swf. I went with your recommendation to put it in the nextgen-gallery directory (David says to put it in the uploads directory). When I had nextgen search for the file, however, it located it in the uploads directory although it wasn’t there.

Then suddenly that file appeared in the uploads directory and now when I search for it nextgen correctly locates it there

2 When I asked nextgen to create a gallery for me and browsed to upload fotos it showed that the photos were being crunched and uploaded but for the life of me, I can’t imagine where they are. Do you know? I can’t see them anywhere.

I expected nextgen to create a folder called gallery where it would put those photos but this didn’t happen either.

I created a directory named gallery under the wp-content directory and tried uploading the pictures again – to that directory – but I still can’t see them.

3 I created a page called gallery and popped in the code nextgen gave me for the gallery. I get almost the same behaviour before uninstall and reinstall of nextgen. In picture view I see that the url for the photos includes a url which repeats twice at the beginning, the basic url of the site:

Although this url references aug2010pix being inside the gallery directory NOTHING appears inside it.

Interestingly, my photos don’t contain underscores or numbers at the end _0 is added to the file name AND the file name has been changed. My file name is Estina,JamesHarris.sm.jpg (first punctuation is a comma).

4 Additionally, although I uploaded those pictures inside their enclosing folder from my client-side pictures folder and as single pictures, on the nextgen overview page it shows that 35 images have been uploaded but when I click to see them I’m brought to the uploads page again. I never see any images.

I suggest in this case that a PHP developer should look for it, there are some behaviour in your enviroment that I can’t explain without debug the server.

Alex, can you think of any issues my server admin should be looking for? He’s willing to fix anything, he says, as long as he knows what’s wrong.
