[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Can't insert gallery, album or picture from editor

I recently upgraded to the latest version of nextgen (1.9.6), deleted a bunch of old albums and galleries and then created a new gallery with an image in it. Now, for some reason the “Add NextGen Gallery” button on the editor doesn’t work. Nothing comes up in the box when I click on it. If I manually insert the gallery, it works fine.
Any idea how to fix this?
