[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Barely responsive site after Install of NextGen

I installed the NextGEN Gallery and activated. Added a gallery. No Problem. Put on page. No Problem.
Site crawls. Admin to wordpress crawls. BIG problem.
De-activiated NextGEN Gallery. Site and admin to site works fine loading fine.
The question is: What is causing the site to be so slow loading with NextGEN Gallery installed and activated?
I would like to use this plugin but I can’t if it’s going to affect site load. This is every page not just the page with the gallery.
