[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] API? Allowing public to upload photos from iPhone

We use NextGEN gallery for our reader photos at https://www.abqjournal.com, and we currently use the public uploader (add-on plugin) to allow users to submit the photos. But that app isn’t being developed anymore, and the submit photo option doesn’t on iPhones.
So, s there a NextGEN API? So that mobile developers could use their own photo uploader which would then send photos to the nextgen gallery?
