• I love this plugin and use it on all my sites. I writing to make a small feature request.

By default, WordPress lists the categories in alphabetical order on the archive page. Would it be possible for this plugin to override that order and list the categories in the order I specify?

I got the idea from another plugin called Simple Page Ordering. It overrides the order of the pages on the archive page so that pages appear in the order I want instead of alphabetical order.

    Thanks for considering my request!

    All the best,

    Fred,

This is arguably something that should be done at the theme level. I’ve avoided applying the order automatically in situations like this because they are so specific. The Simple Page Ordering plugin can more easily accomplish this because page ordering is built into WordPress. Category and Link ordering isn’t and I have to actually add database columns and modify the SQL query executed by WordPress. This required hacking core files until they introduced a hook into the template functions.

    Andrew,

Thanks for your very thoughtful reply. I appreciate your taking the time to explain the issues involved. I hope that it becomes practical to implement this feature someday, as it would be very handy.

    Thanks again,

    Fred
