In my Plugins page, I have the error:

The plugin?xxxxxx?has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

The typical way would be to upload these files by FTP or reinstall the plugin. The problem is that this plugin is an old plugin that I don’t even have installed anymore (it isn’t on my plugins list, even as a deactivated plugin) and when I log on with FTP, there isn’t a folder to delete related to this plugin.

Where would this error be being generated from? I don’t have my admin panel cached either. It’s extremely annoying!

The message is actually only displayed if a plugin directory has been deleted. This is why you cannot find it via FTP: it no longer exists.

The message should normally only be displayed once, then not again. If it repeats, you have activated some caching plugin which also works in the backend. Deactivate all plugins as a test and see if the message then disappears. You can then reactivate the plugins.
