So far, I love the plugin… I have used it for rename individual files (mostly for SEO reasons)…

Can you help with an explanation of what the button “rename all files” does?

I can find NO documentation or description and after running it on my test site (this button really needs a “confirm” before acting BTW)…

    Thanks in advance,

    Hugh

    Hello Hugh,

I am really sorry… I didn’t see your question until now!

Rename all files will go through all the files and the titles and will rename them accordingly. Did you run it? It worked fine?

But you are right on this, there should be a confirmation button here.

Question- I renamed the filename of my images using a plugin and the urls have been updated to the new filename. But when I go onto my site and hover over the images, the old image title/filename still appears. How can I get the hover over title/filename to change?

The plugin only renames the filename, and not the title, caption or anything else. It takes care strictly only of renaming the filename (media file renamer), and avoid breaking your posts by updating the posts. If I start taking care of this as well (which could be cool), I might introduce bugs and people might not want it (so I would have to add an option as well).

    I got it. Thanks.

    Hi Jordy

Sorry I sort of have the same question, I ran the plugin on all my files: the website works but the posts are not updated (as you said) and if I run a link checker it gives me a lot of error yet

I simply don’t understand what happened: URL of media changed – ok, but why are my pages linking to the old links still working ?

    Thanks a lot!

So you mean all the images in your posts are broken?

The URL of the media has nothing to do with what is in the post though, are you talking about the attachment page? I don’t really know why the old link would still work in that case, that doesn’t make much sense, but the new ones work? Are you using some kind of redirection plugin?

    Hey Jordy

Thanks a lot for the answer!

I think it came from a confusion on my side: you state clearly that the URL of the attachments are not updated in the pages, right ?

So in my case I expected them to stop working, but there were still working… probably because of some plugin, yes (WPML sticky links?)

However when I checked the links with Broken Link Checker I had hundreds of “broken URLS”, especially because of all the upper case images that your plugin renamed with lower case.

I’m just not too sure to understand what is happening very well ??

that button’s not easy to find. It should be in the media lib page too

Manucho > The URL of the images should be updated in all posts/pages, but probably not for the attachment URL (the attachment page). And actually the plugin should! I added this to my TODO list but I am not sure when I will do it. If you have some time and willing to help me, of course I will apply the changes to my code asap.

Funsail > If the API would let me add this button easily to the Media Library page directly, I would have done it. I would actually like to be able to use the checkboxes as the selection before renaming all. For now, it’s too much patching/hacking into WP to do so, but as soon as I can do it in a clean way, I will definitely add it.
