Plugin Mangagement Fatal Error

    I’ve just installed and activated the mailman plugin. When I activated it I got the following error in the plugin management screen:

    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 12 bytes) in /home/sites/kouya.net/public_html/wp-admin/admin-functions.php on line 1478

    What is the best way about getting things sorted out? Should I just FTP in and delete the new plugin?

  • Yep, that’d be the quick way to clear it out. WP will automagically detect that the plugin is gone.

    Long term, you may want to contact your host and see if they’ll let you have more than 8MB for your PHP apps.

    8Mb is, by default, the maximum allowed memory for any php script. Either the script is buggy, or the output is very large. Under some circumstances you can adjust that inside the script, the allowed memory, that is.

    (see other recent threads here debating the 8MB cap. personally, my WP install, with the current plugins, does not fit in 8MB!)

    well maybe youre using lots of buggy plugins. Not to hijack the thread, but my wordpress installs, dating back to 1.2, and currently using 28 plugins and lots of custom code have never needed more memory, and ive never gotten a similar error.

    Thanks guys. I’ve deleted the plugin and everything is back to normal.
