• Hi,

While using MailPress 5.0 on WP 3.0 ( in Multi Site mode) I noticed that subscription via the widget suddenly stopped working. No idea why or since when ( nothing in the error logs ) but when I try to subscribe, after hitting the Subscribe button I land on a 404 Not Found page. No verification mail is sent out nor any entry in MailPress log files.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • I found in the Mails list one “Please confirm subscription” e-mail being sent yesterday so only since then the problem occurs. No idea what happened that causes this… ??

Found the following in the server error log. Related maybe ??

[17-Jul-2010 16:13:28] PHP Warning: simplexml_load_string() [function.simplexml-load-string]: Entity: line 1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found in /xxxxx/web109/b1091/xxxxx/wp-content/plugins/mailpress/mp-includes/class/MP_Ip.class.php on line 79
[17-Jul-2010 16:13:28] PHP Warning: simplexml_load_string() [function.simplexml-load-string]: The free Infosniper XML API is NOT more available due to the high amount of quer in /xxxxx/web109/b1091/xxxxx/wp-content/plugins/mailpress/mp-includes/class/MP_Ip.class.php on line 79
    [17-Jul-2010 16:13:28] PHP Warning: simplexml_load_string() [function.simplexml-load-string]: ^ in /xxxxx/web109/b1091/xxxxx/wp-content/plugins/mailpress/mp-includes/class/MP_Ip.class.php on line 79

    Wonder what it means…

Error in the code it seems. A < is missing. Did you report this to the developer?
Second error states that “The free Infosniper XML API is NOT more available due to the high amount of quer” So I guess they got too popular..
third error mentions ^ in plugins/mailpress/mp-includes/class/MP_Ip.class.php on line 79 . I do not know what is indicated on lie 79 as I do not use mailpress as the plugin died on me in WordPress 3.0 a while ago. But maybe my issue has been resolved by now and this could be another?

    Thanks Rhand, for your response.

I did not talk to the devs because, sadly, I am excluded from https://groups.google.com/group/mailpress where – I suppose – more in depth discussion and support is going on. I’d be much obliged if you could post your findings there so you fix can go in a next release ??

But I understand if you don’t want to spend your time on this since you’re not using MailPress anymore…

Oh… you might be interested to hear that despite these errors I’m currently using MailPress on a WP3.0 installation in MS mode. So I expect it should work for you too.

Thanks for the post RavanH. Good to hear it is working in MS Mode under 3.0 . Will reinstate the plugin and play with again when I have time.

    Locate

    wp-content/plugins/mailpress/mp-includes/class/options/ip/providers/

    rename or remove infosniper.php

    That should fix the problem

Thanks John25, I suppose that prevents MP from using infosniper? I have not encoutered that particular error anymore so it seems they have tackeled server overload issues ??

The original problem, the widget not “accepting” new subscriptions and resulting in a 404 page, seems to be solved when I uncheck Preloaded : javascript. No matter what the other options are, as soon as I place a checkmark there, the problem returns. I can live without a checkmark there ??

Sadly, to get that annoying turning “wait/working” gif image to not always show , I have to remove the checkmark from Preloaded : css but them the form does not validate anymore ??

Anyway, the original problem is “solved by workaround”. Thanks.
