Sure kam2011. First of all, let’s get your site working again. You can do that by just deleting the plugin folder. Even better, if you could download the plugin folder via FTP and send it to me by email (email is included in the plugin), I can take a look at the files and see if anything looks corrupt.

Once it’s working again, if you could let me know the version of php you’re using and what operating system your server is running on, that would be helpful. I’ve looked at line 14 of ns_widget_mailchimp.class.php and at first blush don’t see anything out of the ordinary.

On researching this error further, it seems the correct resolution is to upgrade to the current version of the plugin, which you can do either by downloading it and re-uploading to the server, or by deleting the version that’s currently installed and reinstalling from the admin panel.

If you don’t have direct access to the server, either through ftp, a web-based file manager, ssh or some other method, you should get a hold of your server administrator to help resolve the issue.

Please note that the broken version is 0.6.1, which has been removed from the tree. The cause of the error in that version was poor housekeeping on my part, which led to some leftover merge data in the code. It’s been removed and fully repaired in 0.6.2.

I’m going to mark this issue as resolved from my end, although I’m still seeing the error on your site. The issue is almost certainly the one I describe above. If you’re having trouble removing the old file still, and think I can help in any way, feel free to get in touch with me directly using my email address. I don’t think leaving the thread open here will be of help to anyone, though.

    Hi,

I’ve just run into a similar issue.

    I’ve got wordpress site https://ak-dj.com

When I updated my mailchimp plugin the entire thing crashed and I got this error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home/content/m/a/l/maliksworld/html/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/miniMCAPI.class.php on line 162

As per the initial advice here I’ve removed the mailchimp plugin from my server and the site seems to be working fine (for now).

What can I do to get the plugin working again?

    Thanks.

    Hi AK,

Per my response above, the plugin in question isn’t my plugin. My plugin is: “MailChimp Widget”. There are several other MailChimp plugins available, and the issue you’re seeing is with one of them.

    Cheers,

    James
