[Plugin: MailChimp List Subscribe Form] Mailchimp first name is not showing up as being required

On my WordPress site newsletter Mailchimp signup form widget in the footer, the required first name is not showing up as ‘*required.’ I set it up in my list settings panel in MailChimp as the email and first name being required entries. I even got a new API key, but the first name showing as being required is still not there.
I deleted the plugin and then reinstalled. No go.
Any ideas? Thank you.
