• In my Mailchimp admin area, the following Merge fields are available:

    Email
    First Name
    Last Name
    Organization
    Your Name

The “First” and “Last” name fields are being kept for legacy reasons. I want to have one field (“Your Name”) where people can put their first or full name, at their discretion.

Unfortunately, “Your Name” never shows up in my WordPress “Mailchimp Setup” screen. When I added “Organization” this morning it did not show up immediately, but it did show up after about an hour. But “Your Name” hasn’t shown up yet, roughly four hours after it was added.

Are these custom fields pushed out via the API at regular intervals, or should they be available to the Mailchimp WordPress plugin in realtime?

  • When you click the “update list” button we will pull in current list information like the merge vars. Other than that, they are not updated automatically.

Thanks for responding, that worked just fine. But I think the placement and/or labeling of that button is misleading, considering what it does. I thought it would only update the list chosen in the dropdown menu. It does do that, but if that list is already selected (I only have one list) I would not otherwise see any reason to “Update [The Selected] List” because it’s already selected. Just my experience.
