[Plugin: Log Deprecated Notices] Suggested new feature

    I have been using log-deprecated-notices to monitor the plugins that I am using with my main website.

    I have been surprised how many plugins have deprecated calls (including a coupkle in the WP 3.1 RC4 core) and so I have have been sending ‘heads-up’ posts to the developers of my favourite plugins. It occurs to me that it might be quite straighforward for you to add a feature to l-d-n that makes this ‘head-up’ process easier.

    For example, if I could easily grab summary of all the deprecations related to a single plugin I could better inform the developer. Or perhaps send him/here a url to a file on my website that had the same effect.

    Of course, it would also be most helpful if there was a link in the deprecated report that took me directly to the plugin/developer website/email address…..

    Seems to me that this would be a good service for both WP users as well as plugin developers?

    Hi sow,

    I really like where you’re going with this. Grouping notices by plugin is part of my long-term roadmap, and after that, the next step would be to indeed report these upstream (or at least log them for aggregation and statistical purposes).

    Let’s see what I can cook up this month.

    Seconded. This would be REALLY useful, as it would make users of your plugin easily contribute to the overall quality of WP as a whole.

    I am doing the same thing Will does, posting even the fix on the respective plugin forum so that maintainers would fix them in their next release.

    I was also wondering about another thing. Since I am fixing stuff in other people plugins all the time, I could surely use a feature/plugin to help me keep track of my hacks organically (within wordpress) so that when the plugin gets updated (especially when those fixes have not been included) I am at least warned about it…
