[Plugin: Live Blogging] Live blogging, shortcode to use in a theme?

Is it possible to use a shortcode such that it can be implemented directly in a theme instead of in a post?
What i’m trying to achieve is to make the live blogging updates to appear in a div tag on the homepage.
