• Jack, I’ve read through some other posts in this forum about user submissions not working, but I haven’t been able to find a solution. I’m running WordPress on Windows (IIS6). Everything works great except for user submissions. Is there some sort of debugging I can do to find out where the problem is? The submissions are not getting added to the database, nor are emails getting generated. I have a feeling that one of those issues relates to the other.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Did you configure a thank you page after submissions?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I’m running WP 3.2.1 on a hosted Linux server. My default scheme is Atahualpa but I have also tested your plugin on WP’s TwentytEleven.

Everything works well except for the User submissions. The add-link forma comes up OK and on completion says proudly something like ‘Link submitted’.

However, no sign of any confirming emails of actual database entries. I have tried it with and without a response page with the shortcode [link-library-addlinkcustommsg].

You might like to check out the site (its under development so feel free to add data):

Any other suggestions? I’d really like to be able to use this plugin, I’ve tested a lot and it is the best designed/most versatile of them all.

    Cheers

    Will

OK. I’ve made some progress after playing with the Switching Settings.

The new links are being recorded but confirming emails are not always sent to the submitter and/or admin.

Furthermore – and this caused a lot of confusion in the beginning – I have yet to have an opportunity to moderate a new link. They just get placed directly into the list of links.

    Am I missing a setting?

    Regards

    Hi Will,

Links will only go in the moderation queue if the setting “Show user links immediately” is not checked.

As for e-mails not going out when links are submitted, that might be more an issue with your mail server configuration. Do you get e-mails from comments on your blog?

I’m also having problems with link submissions. Everything else works BRILLIANTLY and I have set up 30 libraries and have them sorted just the way I like them! I have a links submission form showing on each output page, set so that a link will go specifically to that library.

I have NOT checked “Show user links immediately”. I have configured all the sections for a submitter to get a message from me. I can’t think of anything else to change. Could you give me some suggestions for likely causes of links not being acknowledge or showing in my moderator queue? Thanks!

Here’s an index of some of my library pages, if it helps to look at. https://www.cocoajava.com/wordpress/?page_id=84
Don’t look at the site design, it’s a mess, I’m more focused on getting all the structural work in place first.

My solution was to make sure that I showed the Category dropdown list. If you don’t show that, the submission form doesn’t work.

I’m looking at Category questions now…

Link category label = Show (this gives me a dropdown out on the page that only lets them choose the category they are in, which is what I wanted.)
Link category override selection list (blank)
    User submitted category = No

    Hmmmm.

    Well, I don’t know then.

Have you checked in the links table in mysql to see if new entries get added at all?

    Hi Lori,

I am a bit stumped by this one. Everything looks right looking from the outside.

Could you give me temporary admin access on your site so that I could go in and add debug statements to the user submission process and test on your installation?

You can send me the details using my contact form at https://ylefebvre.ca

Not sure if this helps or not, but for what it’s worth …

I was also having problems with links not being submitted. Kept saying that the captcha form was answer was blank or incorrect, even though I tried several variations of both the visual and custom ones on and off. Bizarrely, this was happening on the second library I’d created, while Library 1 worked fine. As far as I was aware the second library was an exact copy of the first, except that the wording on the submission form for that one was different. I created a Library 3, copying 1 again, and this works fine for submissions. (Haven’t yet changed the form wording … maybe that’ll break things again!) Have given up trying to figure out why … just happy that it now works!

Now if only I could get them to generate a confirmation email on link submission … my reason for finding this thread! Still, if I can’t crack this one by playing, I’ll start a new and relevant thread.
