[Plugin: Latest News Widget] Can't get this to work properly

I am trying to show the latest post on the homepage, but nothing is working the way I set it in the widget.
I am setting it to Show 1 Post.
It is showing 2 posts.
If I add a ‘1’ to Offset, it shows an OLDER post, not the latest.Help~!?
