First of all it’s great to see this plugin has been taken over and revived as it’s extremely useful.

However, since I installed it on the website for my work https://www.mndassociation.org every few days it seems to suddenly deactivate itself which causes huge issues when users are typing in the short URLs.

I have an audit log plugin installed as well and there’s no reference in there of any other user turning it off, it just seems to happen by itself. Any idea on what could be causing the issue?

Added to the above, I’ve noticed that when re-activating the plugin, it either loses some quick redirects that I’ve set up, or in some cases reverts the destination URL to previous URL that had been in place months before but had been changed. It’s really weird!

@simonmnd, I apologize for the delay. Been a little swamped with the day job.

I have time set aside for this afternoon to devote to troubleshooting the issues everyone’s brought up, so I will be doing that, and hopefully continuing development of v2 today.

@simonmnd, did you have the same issues with the other version of this plugin? The one before I took over development?

There’s nothing in the code that would cause it to deactivate itself. What version of WordPress are you using, and are all of your plugins up to date?

    Hi @bearlydoug,

    Thanks for the response.

The previous version of the plugin was causing a couple of issues by reverting URLs to a previous one, which is why I went looking for answers and found the plugin had been abandoned and then taken over by yourselves.

We are running WP 4.9.8. Not all of our plugins are up to date, no, we have about 9 that require updating, but are awaiting an agency (who deployed them in the first place) to do some work as updating them causes the site to break.

*Touch wood* we’ve not experienced any more issues since I wrote the posts above, but still keeping an eye on things just in case. Do you think it’s possible that there could be a conflict with other plugins we have installed?

@simonmnd, because of how plugins can be written, there’s always that possibility that there is a plugin conflict (I know that there’s one relating to the Enfold theme, which I believe is jQuery related). I’m also seeing several folks having issues with certain types of redirects (META, in particular), because it’s handled via javascript/jquery, rather than using the proper <meta> refresh tag.

I also am aware of the original URL re-write feature when caching comes into play.

That said, I’m glad you’ve not had any issues since posting your initial report. Just keep an eye on it for me, please. When it happens again, please come back and give me a list of plugins that are activated, if you don’t mind.

    Thanks!

Going to go ahead and mark this resolved… for now.
