I couldn’t find anything that said one way or the other. I’m fairly certain that WordTube only does the flash player, so I was wondering if this plugin would allow me to use the Silverlight player? It would be nice if I could use both the Silverlight and Flash players (video from several sources that I don’t have control over its compression), but being able to play wmv is highest priority right now.

Anyone know if this plugin supports it?

  • I would say I’m almost certain it does not support Silverlight. It can be tricky enough getting these players to work with Flash.

A 5-second internet search yielded this:

Short of that, I would suggest finding something that converts WMV to FLV or other good non-Windows format. I never use Windows format files, but I’m pretty sure my fave converter can handle WMV:

Thanks flamenco. “Almost certain” is a lot better than no info. You say that it can be tricky getting the players to work with Flash. I’ve used the JW Flash Player quite a bit, and have had no problems with it. I’ve used it on WordTube among other implementations, but have never used the Silverlight version of the player. I’m just wondering if Longtail’s own plugin is compatible with the Silverlight version of their player?

Thanks for the links. I actually found that plugin too, but there’s no indication its WP 3 compatible. I’m also fairly familiar with converting videos. However these are low enough quality to begin with, I really don’t want to re-compress them if at all possible.

Thanks though. Does anyone else who’s using the plugin know if it will work with the Silverlight version of JW Player?

The plugin currently only supports the JW Player for Flash. At this time there aren’t any plans to support the Silverlight player. However, in the future we will be releasing an update that includes the JW Player for HTML5 as a fallback for users who don’t have Flash or are viewing the site on a mobile device.

    Thanks.
