• I have a brand new website. https://www.BrandNewWebsite.com

    When registered for my Akismet key, I used [email protected] as my user name.

    Now, I am trying to connect Jetpack.

    Jetpack wants me to use my WordPress.com username.

    So, I try to use BrandNewWebsite AND [email protected] with my password.

    Either way, I get an “Invalid email or username” message.

    So, I click on “Need an account?”

    As my username, I entered “BrandNewWebsite”. I then type and confirm a password.

    For my email address, I use “[email protected]” and I get a message that says: “Sorry, that email address is already used. Is [email protected] yours? Log in”

    Since it is mine, I click on “Log in”.

    It takes me to https://wordpress.com. I click on the “Log in” button on the top right. On the next screen, it asks for my email or username.

    If I use my email – “[email protected]” – I get an error message that says: “ERROR: Invalid email or username. Lost your password?”

    So, I click on “Lost your password?”

    Now it requests my username or email. If I use “BrandNewWebsite” it says I have an invalid username. If I use the email address “[email protected]” then I receive an email message with a link to reset the password.

    Unfortunately, when I click on the link I get the following verbose error message:

    <BEGIN MESSAGE>
    Unable to reset password

    I’m sorry, but we weren’t able to find a user with that login information.
    What should I do now?

    Double-check your spelling
    Confirm you have a WordPress.com account and not www.remarpro.com
    Check your WordPress.com registration email for the correct login
    Did you change your registered email address? Use the new address

    Help!

    Still having problems? Try our account recovery form and we’ll do our best to get you running again.
    <END MESSAGE>

    What is going on? How come I cannot connect?

    Please help!

    Thank-you.

    Very strange.

    Just reversed the process on BrandNew2ndWebsite.com and it works fine.

    In other words, setup Jetpack first and then Akismet. Avoid the aggravation.

    Unfortunately, I am still stuck trying to get the first website to work.

    Any suggestions?

    If these are all your web sites, you only need one WordPress.com account. I’d recommend settling on one account name and signing up for it at:

    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

    Then use that username/password to connect Jetpack and signup for Akismet.
