Plugin is causing 'Illegal string offset' errors

  • I am loving this Related Posts plugin, having moved across from Nrelate recently.

    However it is causing a lot of ‘illegal string offset’ errors to appear in my error_log file. For example:

    [03-Mar-2015 06:26:25 UTC] PHP Warning: Illegal string offset ‘width’ in /home2/cathedra/public_html/wp-content/plugins/related-posts-by-zemanta/thumbnailer.php on line 274
    [03-Mar-2015 06:26:25 UTC] PHP Warning: Illegal string offset ‘height’ in /home2/cathedra/public_html/wp-content/plugins/related-posts-by-zemanta/thumbnailer.php on line 279

    This has only been occurring since the site moved to PHP 5.5.

    Are these errors indicative of a bigger problem? And how do I resolve this?
