Hello,
My website is using WPML to translate content with parameter language switcher “?lang=”
Im encountering this issue where on the main page the link with parameter is being redirected to “/”.
At first i thought that this is aan WPML problem so i contacted with them but they have redirected me to you.

WPML response

Hello there,
I checked it and the issue is with the plugin Redirect Redirection, we tested it on chat, but we were seeing a cached version of the site(probably a cache coming from the site’s CDN/Firewall that seems to be Cloudfare).
Please see this screen record:?hidden link
In essence, in the video I show that if we disable the ‘Redirect Redirection’ and try to access the secondary languages with a dummy param like ?nocache or ?nc just to bypass cache, we’re able to see the home page in the secondary languages just fine.
If we re-enable the plugin and test it, even with the parameter in the URL, the site is redirected to the main language.
Can you please reach out to the plugin support and ask them to help you find a configuration that will allow you to use the plugin without affecting the language switcher functionality?
Thank you, please let us know,
Mateus

Hello @heremegive ,

Can you please provide the real life example of what goes wrong in the redirection, i.e.

1. Source URL
2. Destination URL (the one that is not working properly)
3. The URL that should be the correct destination URL

Also please provide the details about this specific Redirection Rule that you set within the plugin.

Looking forward to your reply.

hello.
thanks for the reply. The problem occurs for https://4dpf.com/?lang=de and ?lang=fr.
both redirect to https://4dpf.com/
correct url should be https://4dpf.com/?lang=de and ?lang=fr.
there is no redirection rule thats linked to https://4dpf.com/?lang=de and ?lang=fr.

Hey @heremegive ,

Our plugin won’t make redirections outside the Specific Redirections and Redirection Rules that you set, so there has to be either some redirections sets that interfere or it is not caused by our plugin.

Could you please export both Specific Redirections and Redirection Rules (2 separate files), and mail them to us (support at redirection dot pro) so we can inspect the matter deeper?

Kind regards

Hello @heremegive ,

After checking your redirection rules, I noticed one that does affect the homepage, so please remove it. ID of the redirection is 579, redirect__from input is https://4dpf.com/ (same “to” input), but the rule was set to ignore parameters (disregard the “?lang=” part). Please remove that Specific URL redirect.

Please also keep in mind the Advanced Options settings for the Specific URL redirects, as well as Redirection Rules, as those might affect your redirections in the ways you did not intend.

One more thing I noticed that you added a 404 page redirect. I suggest that you consider adding a Redirection Rules instead of this Specific URL redirect, like this.

Please let me know if this resolved the issue.
