• Hi,

Just done a second WP install and the inbuilt browser / installer function has stopped working – it simply gives

    An unknown error occured

when I try and search for anything. Out of curiousity I checked my existing WP install (different domain) and it has the same problem. Is this a problem with my host or something else?

    Thanks

  • It is likely a problem with your host not making connections to the outside world. When you talk to your host, ask if they have “CURL” configured on the server and if it allows outside connections. CURL is the PHP module WordPress uses to communicate with the plugin browser.

Thanks for that – but as I indicated in my post. I already had a sucessful WP install running and the plugin browser/installer was working beautifully. Separately I’ve installed WP on another domain, noticed the plugin browser not working, gone and checked it on my other domain and now both not working. I suppose it is possible that the host has changed settings in the interim. Any other suggestions?

And now just as mysteriously, the browser has started working again. I can only assume this was something with my host or WP?
