• How do I “Upload” to wp-content/plugins folder??? I am new to this and I cannot figure it out for the life of me. I went through installing plugins but I am not understanding it at all! Where do I find the “WordPress directory online?” I am ready to scream. Please tell me I am overlooking something simple. Any help in uploading plugins would be great. Please do not send me to the directions on WordPress, I am not feeling the love there.

  • assuming you are NOT hosted somewhere like wordpress.com, edublogs.com, etc

    1. you use an ftp client (look at the docs, use google)

    2. to connect to your web sites’s ftp location (info given to you by your host)

    3. said info will consist of an IP or hostname, an ftp username, and a password (talk to your host)

    4. Once you connect via ftp you can navigate around the various directories — and locate your wp-content/plugins directory.

    5. Uploading and downloading is something done with the ftp client.

Searchable keywords are in bold — this is very basic Internet technology stuff and all of this can be learned in greater detail via Google.

I am laughing! This took my two days just to get me to THIS point! Now I am trying to figure out what happens AFTER this!! It sure seems that WordPress would put out a one page set of instructions for those of us doing this for this first time that says all of this instead of having so many of us recreate the wheel and spend hundreds of hours researching something that seems pretty basic to the rest of you.

Having said that. Once you’ve placed the plug-ins into your Plug-In Folder and Activated them- uhhhh…exactly how do you USE them?

Okay it’s a little more than a page but here is the installation doc.

You’ll have to refer to the plugins documentation to see how to use them, all are different.
