Plugin information

Hi, I have some questions about the plugin.
I know in my db backup history that my dattabase size grows and the sometimes gets smaller.
Why does it gets smaller?? Is this because the optimization feature?
Does this plugin delete old tables? or how does it optimize the db?

Information about how does it work could be helpfull for me.
