Yes, you have right. THis was a chnage with WP 3.4.2
But you can use the current verison from github, was fixed

maybe a problem with custom fields and WP 3.4.2? When unchecking the options and saving within an authors profile, the checked option still remains.

to version 3.5.1 there is the same problem
plug-in version 0.0.5
