    Hi Tomi,
I’ve just installed your plugin on my client’s website (https://www.neiwaigong.com). I tried to use my own code placement on header.php and footer.php files (head and body sections) but something goes wrong and my website is broken.

So I tried, first the codeless injection and then the custom injection with php string. Same problem, the website is broken.

At the end I left the Custom Box ticked but I’ve deleted the php string and the tracking seems to be ok! The Google Tag Assistant doesn’t report any error.

Is it possible that GTM tracking is correctly installed without any code injection?

    Thanks in advance.

    Stefano

    Hi Stefano,

I suggest to use the codeless option and please do not add any additional PHP code into your template files. This should automatically add the necessary code into the <head> and after the opening <body> tag without additional coding.

    Hi Thomas,
if I use the codeless option something in my template broke. However if I use the Custom option without insert any additional php snippet, the website is ok, and also the tracking seems to works fine.

    Very strange, doesn’t it?

    Hi Stefano,

With the new container codes introduced with v1.5, the important code gets injected into the <head> (as it is now recommended by Google) regardless of what placement option you choose. This is why it works fine if you select “Custom” but do not alter your there.

Issues can be for visitors with JavaScript disabled but that is usually a very small fraction of your users.

I hope that helps clarifying the reasons.

    Thanks a lot Thomas,
I dont’k now because the codeless option broke my website (in the chrome console the error is JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1
    VM80:1 GET https://www.neiwaigong.com/ net::ERR_INCOMPLETE_CHUNKED_ENCODING).

But with the custom option is all ok (except for visitors with JavaScript disabled as you explain).

    Regard

    Stefano
