Firstly, thanks a zillion for this plugin. I have been trying it out for my online short-story mag for a few days now and I can already see my workload coming down by a ton!

My niggle – if it can be called that – is that I run a SHORT-STORY mag. I am open to different genres ranging from kids/under-age to religion and sci-fi, but the submissions HAVE to be short stories ONLY. All these ‘genres’ have been defined as categories on my blog. I am not looking at accepting submissions in any other forms of writing – no anthologies, non-fiction, novels, novellas – nothing except short-stories. I might expand to poetry and art work later.

Is there anyway I can use my own list of genres on the submission form as opposed to the Hey Publisher list?

    Awaiting your reply. ??

    Thanks again!

Hey – love that you love the plugin and are getting some use out of it.

The functionality that you are describing is coming soon. We’ve had several requests for it. Should be available no later than late November.

In the meantime, our recommended solution is to check that your publication accepts only fiction and map that to an internal genre via the Plugin Options screen. Then put very specific instructions on the page above where the submission form will be displayed, explaining to writers exactly what type of work you’ll accept.

When the functionality you’re requesting becomes available, we will let you know – as well as provide migration instructions.

Thanks for the prompt response. And to corroborate your suggestion: that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. ??

I was wondering, how much will it cost me as a publisher? I have assumed that the service is free because I couldn’t see anything to the contrary. But I haven’t seen a statement on the site confirming that, either! You see, we don’t charge submission fees because we think of it as a platform to promote the short-fiction genre for budding authors.

tl;dr I would really like to know if you are planning to monetize the service, in which case I’ll have to figure out if I can afford it. ??

Also, are you planning to build something that will allow migrating/integrating existing logins (that would mean the existing user-table, I guess) to the corresponding HeyPublisher accounts – meaning the existing registered users on OUR site use the same login on HeyPublisher?

    Am I making any sense? Sorry… o_O

    Shrikant,

Yes, we eventually plan to monetize the service – but the features that you currently enjoy with the plugin will always be free. In the coming months we will introduce some advanced features (like posting requests for specific articles) that will only be available to licensed users. But we will ALWAYS provide submission management services free of charge.

As for your second question regarding migrating existing users into HeyPublisher: This is a great suggestion. We’ll add that to our development schedule and I’ll let you know when it’s scheduled for deployment. Expect that feature no later than the end of the year.

Let us know if you have any other suggestions. We love to hear how we can make publishers’ lives easier.

    Cheers,

That’s brilliant! I’m glad you guys look after the interests of small-timers like us, too. Super thanks! As for the suggestion, I’m honored. Thank you! ??

I have a few other ideas about some enhancements – I’ve already posted them in the forum. Basically, it’s just me being greedy & selfish but if it helps – hey, glad to be of service! ??

    Cheers!
