plugin help mingle forums css hack?

  • ok i will try to be as brief and complete as possible
    i am developing a website to replace my current one at https://www.anythingparrot.com
    development site is set up here

    i have the striking theme installed
    one plugin i am having issues with is the mingle forums plugin.
    i know it works properly because it is running on the main site still even though the theme never actually worked on it.
    on the development site these are the problems i am having with it..
    when you go into any of the forum posts ( like if you want to reply to one) the reply dashboard is vertical rather than horizontal, also the input box has defaulted to white text on a white background making it virtually impossible to post or reply because you cannot see what you are typing.
    can anyone please point me in a direction if this is something that can be fixed with a few css hacks?
    i have tried changing the mingle forum theme itself and it makes no difference to the input box at all. just stuck and in need of help please
