This page is created manually: https://writingitreal.com/community/local-readings

We were hoping to use GF to allow folks to add entries to automatically generate this page sorted by regions. I’m experienced with GF but not with this add-on and I’m only so-so with CSS.

So far I’ve managed to create the form, add the form and add the directory. After submitting a couple of test entries I do have the table displayed. Is there any way to make the approved entries display by the Region category the way my example is? I’m assuming with some use of inspect elements I’ll be able to figure out where to apply CSS for formatting.

The test pages are not live right now. Thanks for your help.

EDIT: So I found in the FAQ to use sort=”8″ in my shortcode with 8 being the correct filed ID. This doesn’t sort the list. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix?

Even if we resolve that, what I’m hoping for is to be able to make each region a header with the items listed under it rather than a table where the region is listed every time.

My test version of this isn’t live but here’s a capture of 4 items added via GF to the directory: https://awesomescreenshot.com/056qu0773

Note that the 2 Seattle entires are not together which is what I would expect a SORT to do. I’d also expect them to be alphabetical by Region since that’s the field I sorted on.

Thanks to a 4 month old post by New_B which said

sort option under the Additional settings section through the editor’s directory button. Default is date_created. The description next to it is “Use the input ID ( example: 1.3 or 7 or ip )”. This was not readily apparent that this is for sorting.

I figured out that putting the sort=8 in the shortcode didn’t do it BUT putting that 8 in the additional settings section per above did the trick. So one issue down.

NOW…if someone can help me figure out how to force this to separate by regions with a heading for each region instead of repeating the region on each line… is that even possible?!

    Thanks.
