I am trying out Store Locator Plus to use on a client’s site. So far it seems like the best option for what we what, but I have a question about a couple of possible customizations.

1)Our client needs the search form as a widget that could be used in the sidebar to search for properties. Can that be done?

2)This client also had a request for the search radius: would it be possible to have the search cover a slightly larger radius than what is specified? For example, if a user selects a radius of 10 miles, would it be possible to loosen it just a bit so it will pick up locations up to 11 miles? In this hypothetical 10 mile search, they want the user to get locations that are, say, 10.2 or 10.5 miles away. Is that possible?

Please let me know if either of the changes above are doable, and if so, what the cost would be for each.

    Thanks

Widget on the sidebar is going to need to be an add-on pack. I won’t be able to get to any new features until mid-November. Customers have purchased customization time slots for other features that will keep me busy until then. I’d love to add this feature, but the features people are paying to have expedited take precedence.

The “fuzzy” search radius is possible but that will be a bit confusing to say the least. We would need to have a complex interface to say “we show 10 miles but we mean 11 or less” so we would need a way to correlate “10 means 11, 25 means 28, and 100 means 110”, or something similar. We could add a simple checkbox that simply says “fudge by 1 mile” to keep the UI simple, but that doesn’t really make sense. For someone wanting to be precise, within a mile for example, a 1 mile fudge factor is useless. On the other extreme someone looking for 500 miles , 1 mile is not going to make a difference so it should be at least 20 miles.

As you can see the “fuzzy search” becomes complicated in a hurry. Instead I’d suggest changing the label to be “show places LESS than X miles away”. Something like that. You can then set the radius list to more granular items like 10, 15, 25, 50 and make 15 the default.

As with any of these, customization is available for $500/day. The widget feature is a few days of work. The fuzzy radius would take a day. Either would be possible on my next available time slot which is mid-November.
