[Plugin: Google Doc Embedder] GDE file sizes

  • Hi,

    PDFs are not loading consistently on a dev site. Smaller file sizes of a few hundred kb load fine, bigger files up to about 2mb load load if you add <p> </p> ether side of the shortcode but larger files are just giving a page title and no content.

    The embedded error is GDE EMBED ERROR: is not a supported file type but they are all PDFs. Files are stored on dropbox.com. in a public folder.

    Is there a file size limit?

    Is there another cloud option that will work for file storage that is compatible with GDE.

    Great plugin, just struggling to get it to work in this application.

    I apologize for my slow response as I was called away for an emergency.

    The “GDE EMBED ERROR” means the file is failing type check. You should disable internal error checking (under advanced options) or add force="1" to the item’s shortcode to bypass this, if you know the file to be supported. I would be interested in what the URL is of the file as it is expecting it to end in one of the supported file extensions. Does Dropbox alter the URL so that the file type is not at the end of the URL? Then you will surely want to disable internal error checking.

    If you find the error is otherwise, please send me a URL or some other information I could use to see and investigate the problem.

    This short answer to “is there a file size limit?” is yes. However, this would be in the several megabyte range, and I’ve had files of 2-3 MB consistently work without issue. (Usually problems start occurring in the 8-12MB range, though I’m not sure what the specific threshold is – this is controlled by Google.)
