[Plugin: Google Analytics for WordPress] Strange campaign source appearing as rss/rss in GA?
-
OK so I was having this issue, and it appears to have started when I enabled this plugin, so I suspect it is related. I was just hoping to track exit clicks and post author analytics:
The site has been running for a few years. All of a sudden in December, starting Dec 8 this year (when I installed GAFW) I see a new traffic source and its significant. It is labelled as source/medium: rss / rss. Again, no visits prior to Dec 8 for this source. At first I thought this might be a spike from Google News but now I suspect its GAFW. Typically this being a news site traffic spikes as posts are published. New posts get the majority of traffic.
However for example for traffic from earlier this week, there were no new posts and I got the most traffic from a post from Nov 8, over a month old! It does not make sense. It shows average time on page as 19 seconds and with a bounce rate of 8.83%? Also strange is this traffic seems to be also tagged as a campaign, but when I look at the campaign name it shows as the article/post title?
Anyone have any idea what is happening? Are these bots? Is this bad?
On a related question is their a conflict between this plugin and the “Google Analytics Dashboard”? I was not sure since that plugin just displays data in WP.
