• I wonder if you realize that plug-ins like this one have the potential to significantly alter how people with few programming skills use WP; it could easily become one of the most used widgets in WP.

Why? Because they potentially allow any theme to be used as a powerful CMS, and allow customized pages (perhaps especially the Home Page) to more attractively show posts. Let’s face it; images improve views by hundreds of percent.

BTW, I like your website; it is clear and your formatting is attractive.

One of the keys to the plug-in is allowing category filtering, for obvious reasons, especially if one is developing an accessible CMS. The other key to the plug-in is that it allows each instance of the widget to have its own thumbnail size. More on this later.

Here are my further suggestions for the widget:
    1) Accept a number of posts to skip field. This would allow the webmaster to put a slider or features section on the page and the widget would ignore those posts so they are not duplicated.
    2) Allow suppression of the thumbnail.
    3) Allow insertion of metadata, including date, author and excerpt, if desired.
    4) Institute a shortcode capable of accepting all parameters.

Shortcodes are transforming WP. You can see that with column div’s independent of themes, your plug-in instituted as a shortcode transforms any theme, and perhaps most importantly, makes those changes independent of the theme itself. All that is required is a little CSS work. PERFECT. And along with a good cache program, speed is not affected.

Especially when each instance of the shortcode allows thumbnail resizing, we now have a plug-in that very simply allows anyone to create a customized magazine style CMS with virtually any theme ON ANY WORDPRESS PAGE. This is a transforming event for WP.

    Thank you for your time.

    Jim,

When you say(on suggestion number 1)”Accept a number of posts to skip field. This would allow the webmaster to put a slider or features section on the page and the widget would ignore those posts so they are not duplicated” you mean the user could set a number of posts do skip, a range, or specific post IDs?

    Hi Jim,

“Get Post List With Thumbnails” 2.0.0 is available

In this new version, is possible to configure the list orientation, if you want only to display images, if you want to display the date, the date format, if you want to display the title and the number of register per line(if you choose horizontal orientation).

As you see, I’ve worked on some of your suggestions.

    Hope you like it.

    Best Regards

I would like to see shortcode support too. I could see good use for this as a plugin for displaying a list of posts inside a post.

So I could list posts from a specific category or containing a specific tag at a specific point inside the post.

It seems reused library thumbnail images are not shown? Is this not possible?

My widget configuration area for this plugin looks nothing like the one in the screen shots. I don’t see an option to set it to horizontal/vertical(it displays vertical even though the script defaults to horizontal) or to say how many goes on each row.

I’m using 3.1.2. Is this something that has changes since your screenshots or is it broken in 3.1.2?

It looks like an absolutely fabulous script if it works.
